50,000 palm seeds will be planted in Bhola

A total of 50,000 palm seeds will be planted in Bhola district to protect against natural calamities and lightning and restore balance to environment.

Planting of seeds has already started in the seven range areas and forest extension centers of the Forest Department in coastal areas of the district under the initiative of the Forest Department in response to various natural disasters.

Md. Moniruzzaman, assistant conservator of Forests in Coastal Forest Department of the district, said that priority in planting palm seeds is being given to the areas that are at risk of natural disasters.

More seeds are being planted especially in the embankment area of the district. Apart from this, palm seeds are also being planted on various roads. The palm seeds of indigenous species produce seedlings within 15-20 days he said.

He also said that the seeds are being planted in Sadar Upazila Range, Daulatkhan Range, Lalmohan, Charfashion, Char Kukri-Mukri, Dhalchar and Manpura Range areas of the district and Forest Extension Center of the Forest Department.

Plantation of palm seed will be completed in the first week of the next month, he added.
