Armed Police Battalion (APBn) arrested five Rohingya people with local and foreign weapons and ammunition from the shelter camp of Ukhia upazila in Cox's Bazar on Sunday.
Additional Deputy Inspector General (ADIG) Mohammad Iqbal, commander of 14 APBn, said that the operation was conducted in the D-9 block of Rohingya camp No. 2-West, Kutupalong, Ukhia upazila in the morning.
The arrestees are Mohammad Zobair, 22, son of deceased Kabir Ahmed of D-9 block of Kutupalong 2-West Rohingya camp of Ukhia upazila; Dil Mohammad, 35, son of deceased Abdul Jalil of C-2 block of the same camp; and Mohammad Khalil, 34. Mohammad Idris, 28, is the son of Matiur Rahman of C-2 Block and Mohammadullah, 25, is the son of deceased Sabbir Ahmed of A-6 Block.
According to the APBn, all the detainees are active members of an armed terrorist organisation based in the Rohingya camp.
ADIG Iqbal said that a team of APBn raided a person's house in the D-9 block of Kutupalong 2-West Rohingya camp in Ukhia Upazila on Sunday morning on the news that some people were armed with intent to commit crimes. When the suspicious house was surrounded, 10–12 people sensed the presence of the policemen and tried to run away. During the chase, it was possible to arrest 5 people, but other persons escaped.
After searching the body and living room of the detainees, 5 foreign pistols, 2 domestic guns and 18 bullets were found.
The APBn police officer said, "The detainees are active members of an armed terrorist organisation based in the Rohingya camp. Each of them is accused of involvement in various crimes."
According to ADIG Mohammad Iqbal, preparations for the case against the detainees are underway at Ukhia Police Station.
