RAB members detained five robbers with domestic weapons while they were fleeing in an auto rickshaw after hacking the driver in Gazipur. This information was given by Lt. Commander Abdullah Al-Mamun, Company Commander of Porabari Camp, a specialized company of RAB-1, on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrestees were Abdullah Al Faisal 19, son of Golam Mohammad of Haloaghat police station in Mymensingh, Mehedi Hasan Mostakim 18, son of Harun Aur Rashid of Sahaganj area of Gauripur police station of the same district, Abdul Hossain, son of Alam Hossain of South Salna Palashtek area of Gazipur City Corporation, Aslam Hossain 18, son of Idris Ali of Nandapur area of Nagarpur police station of Tangail, and Sajib Mia 18, son of Ramzan Ali of the same area.
RAB-1 Company Commander Lt. Commander Abdullah Al-Mamun said the robbers hired a battery-powered auto rickshaw from Chandna Chowrasta in Gazipur City Corporation to Jolarpar. When the auto rickshaw reached the gate area of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agriculture University, the robbers hacked the driver with a sharp weapon and fled with the auto rickshaw. At the call of the injured driver, the RAB patrol team went there and saw the incident.
Meanwhile, RAB members rescued the driver and sent him to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for treatment. Later, on the basis of secret information, members of Porabari camp, a specialized company of RAB-1, raided the Jolarpar market area and arrested the five robbers. The RAB members recovered a battery-powered auto rickshaw, a machete, three knives, a mobile phone, and some cash money from them.
RAB officials further said that the detainees were active members of an organized gang of robbers. The detainees confessed during interrogation that they had been conspiring with each other for a long time to beat up pedestrians, bus passengers, and motorcyclists in the surrounding areas including Gazipur.
