5 produced before court over attack on Rangpur Hindu palli

Five individuals arrested in connection with the recent attack on a Hindu palli at Aldadpur Balapara village under Betgari union of Rangpur’s Gangachara upazila, have been produced before a Rangpur court on Wednesday.

They were brought to court around 1:30 PM on Wednesday.

The joint forces arrested them during a raid conducted Tuesday night, according to Court Inspector Aminul Islam.

The arrested individuals are Md. Yasin Ali, 25, son of Lavlu Mia of Singerghari Majhapara, Sadhin Mia, 28, son of Nur Alam of Dhanipara; Ashraful Islam, 28, son of Golam Mostafa of Chandkhana Majhpara; S.M. Atikur Rahman Khan Atik, 22, son of the late Babul Khan of Pathanpara and Saddam Hossain Selim (22), son of Mozammel Hossain of Chawra Para. All are residents of Magura union under Kishoreganj upazila of Nilphamari district.

According to police, a group of individuals from the nearby area entered the Hindu palli and launched the attack, allegedly in response to claims of religious defamation.

The miscreants engaged in vandalism, looting and even attacked law enforcement officials during the incident.

Several houses were damaged in the attack, prompting a case to be filed.

On Tuesday, a local resident, 55-year-old Rabindranath Roy, lodged a complaint against 1,000 to 1,200 unidentified individuals.

The five arrestees are currently being held in court's detention facility as the investigation continues.
