Members of the Armed forces in separate drives arrested five drug peddlers and recovered wine, cannabis and local sharp weapons from their possession from Tarakandi and Pingna Bazar areas in the early morning of Tuesday.
It is learnt, responding to a tip off, a team of 26 Bir Units of Bangladesh Army headed by Captain Arnab Kabir Prapon conducted raid in Kandarpara area of Pogldighi union and arrested Chan Mia (70) son of Sumon Sheikh and Farhad Hossain (38) son of late Gaziur Rahman and recovered 600 grams of Cannabis, local arms Chapati, Indian empty wine bottles and materials for taking Cannabis from their possession.
At the same time, in another drive conducted in Pingna Bazar, the Armed forces team recovered 11.4 kgs of Cannabis, two litres of local brew from the possession of Tanu Talukder son of Shuvo Mia, Antar Hossain and Naimur Rahman (18) son of Mijanur Rahman and arrested them.
Later, the arrested drug peddlers were handed over to Sub-Inspector Anowar and SI Alamgir Hossain of the Department of Narcotics Control of Sharishabari district.
Local people lauded the role of the 26 Bir Units of Armed Forces members and said such drive was a glorious example against the illegal drug peddlers.
