5 held with 73 sacks of sugar, 196 bottles of oil in Nabiganj

Five persons were arrested with 73 sacks of TCB sugar and 196 bottles of soybean oil from various stores and shops of Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj and Jagannathpur upazila in Sunamganj on Thursday night.  A team of mobile court headed by Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biswajit Kumar Paul seized the TCB goods. 

On information, the mobile court conducted search at the storehouses and shops of Noman Hossain, son of Haji Selim Uddin of Inatganj Bazaar and Aliganj Bazaar and recovered a huge quantity of Soyabean oil and sugar of TCB from there. The mobile court team also recovered illegal Indian cigarettes from there.  

Meanwhile, hearing the news of raid of the mobile court, nearly 100  people gathered at Inatganj Bazaar and demonstrated demanding arrest and punishment of trader Noman Hossain.  

The mobile court team arrested five persons including younger brother of Noman.  The arrested have been identified as Aman Hossain, 30, younger brother of Noman, Linkon Roy, 30, son of Nitesh Roy of Alipur village under Jagannathpur upazila, Siraj Mia, 40, son of Samed Mia of village Tothapibag under Nabiganj upazila, Abdul Kalam son of Shafique Uddin of the same village and Abul Kalam, 42, son of  Kutub Uddin of Botpara village of Nabiganj. Noman Hossain, however, managed to escape by hearing the news of drive of the mobile court. 

The mobile court team was comprised, among others, by Nabiganj Upazila Nirbahi Officer Biswajit Kumar Paul, Officer-in-Charge of Nabiganj Police station Azizur rahman, Assistant Commissioner( land ) of Jagannathpur upazila Yeasir Arafat and Officer-in-Charge of Jagannathpur police station Iftekhar Chowdhury.

Jagannathpur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Yassir Arafat said, trader Noman Hossain had deposited a large quantity of TCB goods in a warehouse in Alipur area of Jagannathpur. The locals informed the administration about the matter. Later, the mobile court conducted raid at Nabiganj and Jagannathpur upazilas.
