5 die of mystry disease in Rangamati

Five people have died of an unknown disease and 14 others have been affected in a remote village under Barkal upazila of Rangamati district.

A medical team comprising seven members went to Thega Chandabighat village of Bhusanchhara Union and is providing treatment to the affected people.

Meanwhile, another team of physicians from Barkal Upazila Health Complex visited the village on Thursday and started providing treatment to the affected people. The doctors said the condition of all the affected people is now stable.

When contacted on Thursday, District Civil Surgeon Dr Nihar Ranjan Nandi said the persons might have been affected after eating dried fishes. Samples are now being collected from the affected persons and it could be confirmed after medical tests, the civil surgeon said. The deceased are Patta Ranjan 

Chakma, 25, Bimaleshor Chakma, 55, Dalim Kumar Chakma, 35, Chitti Mohan Chakma, 60, and Soni Chakma, 8. They died of an unknown disease from January to March this year, locals said.
