5 brick kilns demolished, fined in Savar

A mobile court drive conducted by the authorities of Environment Department (DoE) partially demolished five illegal brick kilns and fined taka 25 lakh at Turag area in Ashulia of Savar, on outskirts of the capital, on Monday.

 Kazi Tamzid Ahmed, Senior assistant Secretary and Executive magistrate of Department of Environment (DoE), led the mobile court in cooperation with local police and RAB.

The demolished and fined brick kilns are Razu Bricks, Ali Ashraf Brick-1, Ali Ashraf brick-2, Dewan Brick and MCB brick.

Kazi Tamzid Ahmed said, “We conducted the drive as part of the ongoing campaign of Department of Environment (DoE) across the country. Today we fined a total of taka 25 lakh to five brick kilns also, we demolished those brick kilns partially and ordered them to stop their activities. If they restart their operation anymore, then we will take action against them again.”

However, this correspondent noticed that, just after the drive, some of those brick kilns including Razu brick, Ali Ashraf brick-1, preparing to start repair the part of their brick kiln, which part was demolished in this drive.

Adv Manzill Murshid, President of Human Rights and peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) urged everyone to be aware about environment pollution.

He said, “if they think they will not suffer due to this pollution, who are polluting our air, our environment, by illegally conducted brick kilns, then it is wrong. We all will have to be suffer due to this pollution. So I urge all to be aware about our environment.”
