49,923 candidates pass MBBS admission test

Published : 11 Feb 2024 10:29 PM

The results of the MBBS admission test for 2023–2024 are now available. A total of 49,923 candidates passed the test. The pass rate is 47.83 percent.

Of the successful students, female students are the majority, making up 59.02 percent.

The findings were revealed on Sunday at a press conference held at the Health Directorate of the capital by Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen.

According to the Minister, the exam’s pass mark was set at 40 percent, just like it was the year before. This year, 49,923 students passed the MBBS entrance exam.

Last Friday, the MBBS admission exam was administered in 19 centres across 44 institutes across the nation. A total of 1,04,374 students submitted applications to take the admission exam. This year’s entrance exam was taken by 98 percent of the students who registered for it. 37 government medical colleges have 5,380 seats, while 67 private medical colleges have 6,295 seats.

Admission of Applicants: Following the announcement, prospective students can visit the https://result.dghs.gov.bd/mbbs website to view their MBBS admission test results. In addition, the results are available on the Department of Health Education’s website, which can be found at https://dgme.portal.gov.bd.

Successful students will receive an SMS on their phones with the results. The mobile number provided at the time of application will have access to the results.

One mark is assigned to each of the 100 questions in a written admission test, for a total of 100 marks (based on the HSC or similar syllabus). For every incorrect response in the written exam, 0.25 points will be taken away.

A written test score of less than 40 will be deemed unsuccessful. Less than 40 points on the entrance exam will disqualify a student from consideration for admission.

Second-time admission-aspirants cut off marks

Candidates admitted to public and private medical and dental colleges for the second time will lose ten points. This academic year, the district quota has been eliminated from the admissions exam. Ordinary students will be admitted to the Muktijoddha quota seats if they are not filled in the allotted time.

Many retake the test to gain admission to medical schools. The previous seat becomes available if one has the opportunity to be admitted to a better location the next time.

Government funds are wasted.

The government decided to take everyone’s advice and cut 10 marks after several discussions on the subject. The purpose of this decision is to dissuade applicants from taking the entrance exam a second time.

Nonetheless, the decision to withhold 5 marks from students who are not accepted for a second time into public or private medical or dental colleges stands.

It is known that students who applied for the district quota receive twenty percent of the available medical seats. This opportunity is not available to students in the 2023–2024 academic year.
