Police have recovered 47 sacks of abandoned rice from Muslimabad village in Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur. Those sacks of rice belong to government’s food friendly programme.  The rice sacks were recovered on Wednesday afternoon and later taken into police custody.

Madarganj Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Masuduzzaman said that according to the locals, 47 sacks of food-friendly program rice were recovered from the back of a Bhutto house in Muslimabad village of the upazila in the afternoon.

Incidentally, the government has been distributing food-friendly rice once a month at a rate of Tk 10 per kg to the extremely poor through dealers listed by the Food Department.

The idea of the locals is that the dealers have not been able to sell the rice or sell it on the black market due to the recent increase in surveillance by the upazila administration.
