Police arrested a total of 44 BNP men as they made sudden attacks on police in city's Naya Paltan area aiming to make the normal situation unstable on Tuesday.
"BNP men organized a rally against communal violence in front of the party's central office in Naya Paltan around 11am despite having no permission. At around 11.30 am, they suddenly attacked policemen after their rally. A total of 44 BNP men were held from the Nightingale Crossing in this connection," said Hafiz Al Asad, additional deputy commissioner (media and public relations) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
They threw brickbats at the police, he said, adding that police later fired tear gas in self-defense.
