A total of 4340 small and marginal farmers of Raozan upazila who were affected by the flood got free winter vegetable seeds, fertilizers, and cash assistance under the initiative of the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE).
The rehabilitation incentive programme was held on Monday morning at the Upazila Parishad field which was presided over by Raozan Upazila Agriculture Officer Masum Kabir and conducted by Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer Sanjib Kumar Sushil, while the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Aonggyajai Marma was present as the Chief Guest. At this time, the Sub Assistant Agriculture Officers along with various officials of the Upazila Parishad were present.
According to the Upazila Agriculture Office, during the Kharif-2 season in the 2024-25 fiscal year, 700 flood-affected farmers were provided with the first incentive for Rabi season cultivation. Each farmer received seeds for 20 types of Ufshi variety vegetables, along with a cash amount of Tk 1,000 per person through bKash.
In the second phase, hybrid vegetable seeds, 10 kg of DAP fertilizer, 10 kg of MOP fertilizer, and Tk 1,000 through bKash were distributed to 3,000 farmers.
In addition, 640 farmers were provided with wheat, mustard, groundnut, sunflower, winter onion, mung bean, and felon seeds as incentives for the Rabi season. The farmers were happy to receive free winter vegetable seeds, fertilizers, and cash assistance.
Finally, the Chief Guest inaugurated the Rat Eradication Campaign-2024.
Sub Assistant Agriculture Officer Sanjib Kumar Sushil said rats destroy about 20% of crops nationwide. To protect the crops of farmers in Raozan, the Agriculture Office distributed rat-killing machines among the farmers. Upazila Agriculture Officer Masum Kabir said the government provided cash assistance, winter vegetable seeds, and fertilizers as incentives. The vegetables you produce should not only meet your family's needs but also be sold in the markets to earn money.
