A total of 41 students from Shamsun Nahar Hall at Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded scholarships for their academic achievements and contributions. The students received the Fatima Iqbal Trust Fund Scholarship, Shahidul Haque Memorial Scholarship, and Provost Scholarship at a ceremony held on Sunday at the hall auditorium.
The information was confirmed in a press release issued by the university's public relations office on Monday.
Treasurer of Dhaka University, Professor M Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, attended the event as the chief guest and handed over the scholarship cheques to the recipients. In his speech, he paid tribute to the late Fatima Iqbal and congratulated the students who earned the awards.
Prof Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said, “Such scholarship programmes are essential to encourage and inspire students in their academic journey. It not only honours the memory of great individuals but also builds the foundation for a brighter future.”
Hall Provost Professor Dr. Nasrin Sultana spoke at the event and appreciated the hard work of the students. She expressed hope that the recipients would continue to shine in their respective fields and bring pride to the university.
Dr. Nafiza Ferdousi, a member of the Fatima Iqbal Trust Fund and a part-time residential teacher at the hall, also spoke at the cheque distribution ceremony. She highlighted the importance of financial assistance in supporting students from different backgrounds.
The event was attended by deans from various faculties, provosts of different halls, department chairpersons, and guardians of the scholarship recipients.
The organisers hoped that the programme would inspire other students to excel in their studies and contribute to the university’s proud tradition.
