406 CoU students awarded VC scholarship

Comilla University (CoU) administration has awarded Vice Chancellor Scholarship-2023 in various categories to 406 students of 19 departments.

The cheque was given to the scholarship students by the Vice Chancellor of the University Dr. A F M Abdul Moyeen. The event was hosted on Monday under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Mu. Aminul Islam Akanda and under the supervision of Zahid Hasan, Assistant Professor of Management Education and English department lecturer Kazi Fakhera Naushin. 

A total of 391 students including 372 meritorious and disadvantaged undergraduate and postgraduate students, 19 students in the sports scholarship category were awarded a check worth TK-8,500 each from the University's own funds.Apart from this, 15 students of CSE department (3 students from SSM Memorial Fund and 12 students from North Carolina, USA based scholarship program-Shopan) will be given 5 thousand taka per month with the funding of computer science and engineering department.

In the speech of the chief guest, the Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. AFM Abdul Moin said, 'Today's day has been made special for all of us by the scholarship recipients. We started this program by setting up 80% of the funds from the admission test revenue.We are probably the first public university to recognize the merit of students by creating funds from the proceeds of the admission test. We are happy to introduce sports scholarships in line with the promise we made last year. I hope this scholarship program will continue not only this year, but year after year.'

He further said, 'We support the development of deep learning, authentic learning, experimental learning, and critical thinking. We are working to instill a passion for lifelong learning beyond textbooks and classrooms. which is going to prepare our students for a world that demands adaptability, innovation and ethical leadership.'

In the president's speech, Professor Dr. Mu. Aminul Islam Akanda said, 'We are encouraging students in the field of education through this scholarship as well as providing financial support. Besides, the sports scholarship will encourage the students to play sports. I thank the Vice-Chancellor Sir for taking the initiative to provide this scholarship.'

In addition, UGC Grant Commission member Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher. In addition, as a special guest, the Vice-Chancellor of the University Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Treasurer Prof. Asaduzzaman, Dean of Faculty of Social Science N. M. Rabiul Awal Chowdhury, Regimental Commander of BNCC Mainamati Regiment Lt. Col. Kamrul Islam and Deputy Commissioner of Comilla Mushfiqur Rahman were also present.
