400 workers to get capacity building support in Rajshahi

Around 400 domestic female workers will get capacity building support in terms of ensuring their legitimate rights through empowerment.

 To this end, initiative has been taken to bring them under awareness and orientation programmes related to their human rights and gender based discrimination, violence and sexual exploitation they face in their workplace.

The promotional activities will be implemented in Ward Numbers 18, 19, 24 and 28 in Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) under a 15-month project titled "Empowering Women through Civil Society Actors in Bangladesh (EWCSA)'.

 Association for Community Development (ACD) will implement the project with the main thrust of empowering marginalized women working in informal occupations and strengthening public institutions to ensure responsiveness towards gender concerns supported by OXFAM in Bangladesh co-funded by the European Union.

ACD authorities revealed this in a project inception meeting styled "Strengthen Women's Movement for Increased Participation of Women Working at Informal Occupations in Rajshahi '' at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner.

ACD Project Coordinator Monirul Islam gave an overview of the project along with its aims, objectives and implementation strategy, while Associate Professor Shatil Siraj from the Department of Mass Communications and Journalism at Rajshahi University portrayed a salient feature on the issue through their respective multimedia presentations.

DC Abdul Jalil addressed the meeting as chief guest, while ACD Executive Director Salima Sarwar welcomed the participants with Additional DC Anisul Islam in the chair.

Program Officer (Partnership Assessment) of Oxfam in Bangladesh Md Usuf, RCC Ward Councilors Shahidul Islam and Towhidul Haque and Public Prosecutor Ismat Ara Begum also spoke.

As a whole, the project will sensitize the community to promote increased participation of women working in informal occupations through community radio.
