Bangladesh Heritage Development Foundation initiative to plant 1 crore date tree saplings across the country in the next 4 years. Under this programme, the foundation has set a target of planting 7 lakh date trees in three upazilas of Narail.
Sources said, A total of 200 date tree saplings planted at Arunima Resort Golf Club in Narail.Vice-president of Bangladesh Heritage Development Foundation Md. Nazmur Rahman Talukder presided over the date tree saplings planting ceremony on Friday (August 5) at Arunima Resort Golf Club. Md Zakir Hossain, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges was present as chief guest in the occasion while senior journalist Zahirul Islam and Khabir Uddin Ahmed, Chairman of Arunima Resort Golf Club and member of Bangladesh Tourism Board, were present as special guests.
Speakers said, at the beginning of winter season, date juice was used to make various pita-puli and delicious molasses in the past times .The fame of date molasses of Narail and Jashore gained a lot of popularity of the country and abroad.
Date trees also play a role in preventing river erosion . About 200 trees will be planted at Arunima Resort Golf Club to sustain the tradition of modern Bengal, creating direct and indirect local employment through date tree planting,they said.
Khabir Uddin Ahmed said that if the date tree planting programme is implemented in this resort and golf club built with about 50 acres of land, the touch of nature will go one step further. Tourists coming in the winter season will be able to drink the juice extracted from the date trees planted here,he said.
