The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has sent four people accused of war crimes in Satkhira district to jail.

The three-member tribunal, headed by its chairman Justice Md Shahinur Islam, issued the order on Thursday (September 8). The two other members of the tribunal are Justice Md Abu Ahmed Jomadar and Justice KM Hafizul Alam.

The tribunal also fixed October 11 for the submission of the report on overall progress of the case. Prosecutor Md Mokhlesur Badal confirmed the matter.

The four accused in the case are- SM Mohsin ul-Mulk, son of Barkat Ullah of Ishwaripur union at Shyamnagar upazila of Satkhira district; GM Mohiuddin, son Nasir Udding of Munshiganj union at the same upazila; Md Fazar Ali Gazi, son of Juhor Ali Gazi and Abdul Quddus Gazi, son of Mandar Mollah of Srifalkati of the upazila.

Earlier on Wednesday (September 7), the International Criminal Tribunal issued an arrest warrant against ten people, including the four accused, from Shyamnagar in Satkhira in the case of crimes against humanity during the Bangladesh War of Liberation.

However, the court abstained from revealing the identities of the remaining six as there is a possibility for them to escape the provisions of the law, said the concerned court officials.

The four accused were arrested from different areas of Shyamnagar soon after the arrest warrant was issued. They were produced before the tribunal on Thursday.

On April 26 in 2009, Chandana Rani Mandal filed a case against

four accusing that they brutally tortured and killed her father Surendranath Mandal, a resident of Kadamtola village at Munshiganj union of Shyamnagar upazila during the liberation war in 1971.
