Four Rohingya robbers were killed in a reported gunfight with police in the deep hills on Teknaf and Ukhia border in Cox's Bazar on Friday. Yaba pills and weapons were recovered from the spots.

Cox’s Bazar Additional Superintendent of Police Iqbal Hossain said the shootings took place during a raid in the deep hilly areas of Chakma Para under Hwaikyang Union in Teknaf and Mantali under Jaliapalang Union of Ukhia.

The deceased were identified as Bashir Ahmed and Hamid Hossain, brothers of Abdul Hakim, a notorious Rohingya robber, and Mohammad Rafiq and Mohammad Rangaiya, members of his gang.

Iqbal Hossain said on information of armed robbers hiding in the deep hilly areas on the Ukhia and Teknaf border on Friday morning two police teams raided Chakma Para and Montali areas.

At one point, the robbers started firing at the police after sensing their presence when police also fired back in self-defence. When the firing stopped, the bullet-riddled bodies of four people were found at the spot. A search of the spot turned up 40,000 yaba pills, four home-made guns and 20 bullets, he added.

The bodies of the deceased were recovered from the spot and brought to Ukhia police station in the afternoon. Later the bodies were sent to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, said Iqbal Hossain.
