Four members of the same family, including a child, were injured in an incident of arson in Jhikargacha upazila of Jashore district on Thursday.
They belong to a family of a Union Parishad (UP) Member, who was also injured in the incident.
The injured were identified as UP Member Talimul Islam Khan, 38, his wife Mukta Begum, 32, and his son Mehemid Khan, 3, and his younger brother Obaidul khan, 34. Obaidul Khan was injured when he tried save them.
They are under treatment in Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery at present.
The incident took place at Kagmari village under Ganganandapur union in Jhikargacha upazila on early Thursday. Their relatives claimed that some miscreants set fire to their room after locking the door from the outside.
Injured Obaidul said UP Member Talimul was sleeping with his wife and son in his own room at night. However, the room was seen to be burning around 2 am at night. The door of the room was locked from the outside. Later, they were rescued after breaking the door.
They were taken to Jashore 250 Bed Hospital first. Later, they were transferred to Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery.
Officer-in-Charge of Jhikargacha police station, Kamal Hossain, said the incident of arson took place in Kagmari village. Police have visited the spot. Legal procedure is underway regarding the incident.
