4 of a int’l human trafficking gang arrested

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested four members of an international human trafficking gang from Uttara in the city. 

CID Additional Deputy Inspector General Sheikh Omar Faruque confirmed it at a press conference at CID Headquarters in the capital Dhaka.

They have been identified as  Md Jamal Hossain (40), Nahidul Islam Palash, Md Habibur Rahman (51), Mamunur Rashid Mamun (41).

The specialized investigation agency of Bangladesh Police also sized  26 passports, 19 seals of different embassies, banks and agencies, and 10 fake visas of Cambodia from the arrestees.

This gang was active in Bangladesh, India, Sri Lanka and Maldives. They were operating for long, the additional DIG said. 

Two cases were filed against them at Uttara East Police Station under Human Trafficking Act, 2012 and Passport Act, 1973.

The gang were recruiting people in the name of employment in Malta, Cambodia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Egypt, Maldives. 

They at first bring victims to India through land ports on travel visas. Then, the gang collect money from the victims' families.

If the families expressed inability to pay the money, the victims were tortured. After collecting the money, Indian brokers would arrange for them to be sent to Sri Lanka.  Later they are left in isolated forests.
