Former prime minister Sheikh Hasina were sued in four more murder cases in Dhaka and Chattogram on Monday.
Besides, another complaint was filed on Monday with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against 27 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Obaidul Quader, Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Huq Inu for committing alleged genocide and crimes against humanity.
Of the four murder cases, three were filed in Dhaka against Hasina and 78 others on Monday were sued in three more murder cases filed over deaths during the recent protests in Dhaka's Mirpur-10 and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Hasina and 66 others were sued for the death of Jubo Dal leader Abdullah Kabir Khan, 50, in front of Ideal School in Mirpur-10 on August 4. Kabir Khan's wife Afsana Akhter Islam filed the case with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan.
Awami League General Secretary and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former lawmakers Kamal Ahmed Majumder and Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former DB chief Harun Or Rashid, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman and former DMP joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarkar are among the accused.
The magistrate asked the officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station to register the complaint as a first information report (FIR).
In another case, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 147 others were filed on Monday, 19 August, in a case filed over the death of protester Liton Hasan Lalu during the mass protest in Mirpur-10 in August.
Awami League General Secretary and former road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan, former lawmakers Kamal Ahmed Majumder and Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, former inspector general of police Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, former DB chief Harun Or Rashid, former DMP commissioner Habibur Rahman and former DMP joint commissioner Biplob Kumar Sarkar are among the accused.
Md Milon Hasan, the victim's brother, filed the murder case with the same Court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mehedi Hasan.
The magistrate recorded the statement of the complainant and asked the officer-in-charge of Mirpur Model Police Station to register it as a first information report (FIR).
According to the case statement, Liton participated in a procession during the mass protest brought out in the city's Mirpur-10 intersection around 2:00pm on August 4. At one stage, some other unidentified persons opened fire, injuring the victim seriously.
Soon after the incident, Liton was rushed to the National Institute of Neuroscience and Hospital at Agargaon where he succumbed to his injuries on August 7.
Besides, in the third case, Sheikh Hasina and 12 others were sued for the death of carpenter Tarique Hossain, 18, who died on August 9 after being shot in front of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on August 5.
Tarique's mother Fidushi Khatun filed the case against Hasina and 12 others with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farah Diba Chhanda.
Quader, Asaduzzaman, former law minister Anisul Huq, Majumder, Nikhil, Abdullah Al-Mamun, Harun Or Rashid, Habibur and Biplob were among the accused in the second case.
The court asked Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to submit a report by September 30 after an investigation.
Tarique was shot in front of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station around 7:15pm on August 5 when he was returning from his workplace. He was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where he died of his injuries on August 9.
With the latest cases, Sheikh Hasina, who resigned and fled to India amid a mass uprising on August 5, is now facing 20 cases, including 17 for murder, one for abduction and two for committing crimes against humanity and genocide.
Case filed against Hasina, Quader, Hasan over student death in Ctg
In Chattogram, a murder case has been filed against 108 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and former ministers Obidul Quader, Hasan Mahmud and Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, over the killing of a student during the Anti-discrimination Student Movement in Chattogram.
College student Washim Akram, 21, a student of Sociology Department of Chattogram College and joint secretary of college unit Chhatra Dal was killed in the quota reform movement in the city's Muradpur area.
Wasim was the son of Saudi expatriate Shafiul Alam, a resident of Ward No. 9 of Sadar Union of Pekua Upazila of Cox's Bazaar district. They are two brothers and three sisters.
Wasim Akram was shot dead in a clash between Anti-discrimination Student's Movement activities and Chhatra League in Muradpur area at 3 pm on July 16.
Deceased Wasim's mother Josna Akhter filed a murder case with Panchlaish thana on Sunday night mentioning the name of 108 people and 100-150 unidentified with city's Panchliash thana, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchlaish police station Santosh Kumar Chakma.
Ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former roads, transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, former foreign minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud, City Awami League general secretary AJM Nashir Uddin, former education minister Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel, Chattogram City Corporation mayor Mohammad Rezaul Karim, former MP Mohiuddin Bachchu and CCC councilor have been named as 108 accused.
In the statement of the case, the plaintiff mentioned that her son Wasim Akram killed by the cadres of Awami League, Jubo League, Swachhasebak League and Chhatra League at the said area by the direction of their highups.
The accused carried out momentary bomb blasts and attacked the gathering with sticks, hockey sticks, crickets and firearms at 3 to 4 pm on that day. At one point, Wasim was shot in the chest and navel by the accused and fell down.
Later, he was rescued and taken to the CMCH where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Confirming the case, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Panchliash thana Sontush Kumar Chakma said, 'a college student named Washim was killed in the firing incident over the quota reform movement at Muradpur on July 16.
Complaint filed with ICT against Hasina, 27 others
Meanwhile, a complaint was filed on Monday with the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against 27 people, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former ministers Obaidul Quader, Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Huq Inu for committing alleged genocide and crimes against humanity.
The other prominent accused in the complaints are- Anwar Hossain Monju, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Huq, Hasan Mahmud, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mohammad Ali Arafat, Kamal Ahmed Mazumder and former inspector general of police (IGP) Abdullah Al Mamun.
Md Abul Hasan, father of Shahriar Hasan Alvi, who was gunned down during recent anti-discrimination students' movement, filed the complaint against 27 people including Sheikh Hasina and her cohorts and 500 unnamed others with the investigation agency of the ICT.
The plaintiff filed cuttings of different newspapers and other documents with his complaint. He brought allegation of genocide and crimes against humanity under sections 3(2), 4(1) (2) of The INTERNATIONAL CRIMES (TRIBUNALS) ACT, 1973.
