A mini truck driver and its helper were killed as their vehicle hit a vegetable-laden truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Bara Kamaldah area under Mirsarai upazila in Chattogram early morning on Saturday.
The deceased were identified as truck driver Shafiul Islam, 32, and his helper Liton, 30. Police said the accident took place in the area at about 2 am when the mini truck hit another vegetable-laden truck from behind, leaving the two critically injured.
The injured were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where attending doctors declared them dead at 5 am, said Fire Service official Farid Ahmed Chowdhury.
Meanwhile, two persons were killed and one was injured when a truck and a battery powered easy-bike had a head on collision in Abhaynagar of Jashore in the morning.
The victims were identified as- Monirul Islam, 44 of son of Dabir Sheikh of Savarpara village and Mizanur Rahman Bishwas, 45 son of Malek Bishwas of Khanjahanpur village of Fultola upazilla.
Another person identified as Inamul Islam, 19 was injured.
According to locals and police sources, the accident occurred on Jashore-Khulna highway as the easy-bike collided head on with a Khulna bound truck near Nowapara, Pirbari area, leaving three of its passengers severely injured.
On information, a fire service unit rushed the spot, rescued the injured persons and admitted them to Abhaynagar Upazilla Health Complex.
