Law enforcers on Thursday arrested four alleged gold smugglers passengers from a flight of US Bangla Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital Dhaka.
They also seized gold weighing 2.104 kg from their possessions.
Additional Superintendent of Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) Mohammad Ziaul Haque confirmed it.
The arrested was identified Khorshed Alam, 42, Abdul Kadir, 41, Jewel Hossain, 34, and Ibrahim Khalil, 40. They all were passengers of the US Bangla Flight No. BS 342, s.
Getting secret information, a joint team comprising the National Security Intelligence (NSI), Dhaka Customs, and APBn closely monitored a flight arriving from Dubai at the airport around 4:55 am on Wednesday.
The joint team during their operation arrested the four passengers when they were coming out of the airport through its green channel.
During their primary interrogation, the four passengers denied having gold under their possessions.
At one stage, law enforcers recovered 316 grams of wet gold powder, one gold bar weighing 116 grams, and 94 grams of gold ornaments from each.
A case under the Special Powers Act was filed against the arrested passengers with the Airport Police Station in this connection.
