The Election Commission (EC) has imposed a 4-day ban on the movement of motorcycles in the capital from January 28 centring the upcoming elections of the two city corporations. A directive in this regard has been forwarded by the EC to the Secretary of the Ministry of Road, Transport and Bridges and also to the Dhaka District administration.

As per the directives, no motorbike would be allowed to move in the capital from January 28 to January 31 for the sake of holding smooth and trouble-free elections. The elections in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) will be held on January 30 at a time. Apart from the Mayoral posts, elections will also be held in the post of general Ward Councillors and reserved seats for the women.

Meanwhile, Election Commissioner Mahbub Talukdar on Monday urged the Election Commission to issue a circular with specific directives on electoral code of conduct so that no “confusion” can arise ahead of the city corporation elections. If the code of conduct is not strictly enforced, the commission might face lack of confidence, which under no circumstances isexpected, Mahbub Talukdar said in a letter to the chief election commission.

He also addressed the letter to the returning officers of both the DNCC and DSCC.
