Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) took charge of the maintenance of four flyovers constructed by the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) at a cost of Tk 927 crore 22 lakh to ease traffic in the city. The paperwork has been handed over to the city corporation since Sunday.

According to CCC and CDA sources, three days from November 16, the CDA's engineering, mechanical, electrical and related departments reviewed and finalized the four flyovers from all sides. Later on December 1, the day of transfer formalities was set.

CDA Chief Engineer Kazi Hassan Bin Shams said, “The City Corporation is being handed over to the CDA built Bahaddarhat MA Mannan flyover, Muradpur Akhtaruzzaman flyover, Dewanhat overpass and Kadamtali flyover for beauty enhancement, repair and maintenance. The CDA constructed these flyovers but did not have enough equipment and manpower to maintain them. Therefore, these flyovers are being explained to the CCC as per the Inter Ministry's decision.”

Chittagong City Corporation Chief Engineer Lt. Col. Sohail Ahmed said, "Before the CDA explained to us these flyovers, we have fully confirmed the tests in the second week of November so that there will be no inconvenience on the flyovers. Flyover railings, electric lights have been checked to make sure the connection is ok. But the Muradpur flyover has a lot of fixing of the electric lights. In addition to Muradpur flyover holes were created in many places of Dewanhat flyover. They should be repaired in a quick time.' Despite the financial crisis, the flyovers will be repaired and maintained on their own for the benefit of the townspeople from their own funds.

The meeting was attended by CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, CDA Chairman M Zahirul Alam Dohbhas, senior engineers and officials of the respective organizations were present.
