Four unidentified bodies were found floating in the Baral River at Charghat upazila in Rajshahi on Friday. Locals found the decomposed bodies floating near a sluice gate of the river at about 8:00 am and informed the police. Samit Kumar Kundu, officer-in-charge (OC) of Charghat Police Station, confirmed the matter.
On information, police and fire service personnel went to the spot and recovered the bodies. The bodies were found entangled with the water hyacinth. The bodies could not be properly identified till filing of the report, but there were two men and two women, said the OC. The OC said that it is not immediately clear whether the bodies came from the upstream of the river or those were dumped in the area after killing. He said they were trying to identify the bodies, and details would be revealed in phases. The bodies will be handed over to their families after confirming their identities. However, police are investigating the matter, he added. Meanwhile, several parts of decomposed cattle bodies were also seen in the river.
