39 die as Bangladesh finds 3,531 new virus cases

Bangladesh on Sunday confirmed 39 deaths from the novel coronavirus and 3,531 new cases of infection overnight.

Some 1,084 patients got cured during this period of 24 hours till 8am, additional director general for health Prof Nasima Sultana said at the daily briefing.

She said they had tested 15,585 samples during the time.

With that, the death toll from the pandemic virus rose to 1,464, infections stood at 112,306 and the tally of recoveries to 45,077.

The infection rate among the samples tested has been 22.66 percent on Sunday.

According to the latest data, 40.14 percent coronavirus infected patients have recovered so far and 1.30 percent died.

Among the Sunday's deceased, 35 were men and four women.

Thirty-three patients died at different hospitals and six at their respective homes.

16 were hailed from Dhaka division, 11 from Chattogram, four each from Khulna and Barishal, two from Rajshahi, and one each from Rangpur and Sylhet divisions.

Currently, 63,205 people are quarantined across Bangladesh – including 2,819 newly-quarantined individuals.

A total of 276,378 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities placed 631 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 12,190 after 7,624 left, Prof Nasima said.

The WHO declared the virus pandemic on March 11. Bangladesh confirmed the first cases on March 8, and the first death on March 18.

The virus has killed 467,011 people globally and infected 8,931,812 so far.
