36 DU students get ‘Duke of Edinburgh International Award’

A total of 36 students from different departments of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded “The Duke of Edinburgh International Award” for their success in various extra-curricular activities. Among them, 14 students received Silver Awards and 22 others Bronze Awards. Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman distributed certificate among the students as chief guest at a function held on Wednesday at Prof. Abdul Matin Chowdhury Virtual Classroom of the university.

Director of Students Counseling & Guidance Office of DU Prof. Dr. Mahjabeen Haque presided over the function while Secretary of Board of Trustees of the Duke of Edinburgh Award Foundation Rizwan-Bin-Farouk addressed it as special guest.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Akhtaruzzaman congratulated the awardees. He stressed the need for enhancement of technology-based knowledge, skills and qualities of young generation to achieve Sustainable Development Goals as well as build Smart Bangladesh. He said, students have to participate at extra-curricular activities along with their academic ones to prepare themselves as worthy citizen. He also urged the students to equip themselves with moral and humanitarian values to make an inclusive society. The VC emphasized on expansion of Duke of Edinburgh programs at DU and bringing more students of the university under this program. He also underscored the need for formulation of a club with Duke of Edinburgh International Awardees at the university.
