35,000 more digital labs by 2025

State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said that 35,000 more modern Sheikh Russel Digital Labs will be set up in the country by 2025 to educate students in technology.

He made the remarks while addressing a roundtable meeting organized by A2I, Grameenphone and Plan International on the occasion of International ICT Girls' Day on Thursday.

The state minister said that through this installation, the adolescents will be directly and indirectly encouraged to become proficient in ICT education.

He said that, “64 Sheikh Kamal IT Training and Incubation Centers are being set up across the country to create IT dependent employment for SSC and HSC pass students”.

He called upon the government as well as all concerned to play a responsible role in mentoring, coaching and monitoring the trainees.

The state minister for ICT said that, “Adolescents need to be interested in modern technology, science and technology, engineering and mathematics to build a future-oriented, skills-based education system. Otherwise they will fall behind”.

Noting that the National Curriculum for Coding and Programming will be introduced from the primary level from next academic year, Palak said that, “It is very important to take math, English education as well as programming and coding education from the primary level to advance oneself in the modern world. Teachers and parents have to play a special role in motivating the students in this regard. Then teenagers will be able to bring success in ICT”.

The State Minister also urged the government, industry and academia to play their due role in making International ICT Girls' Day effective and fruitful. Among others, BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir, Plan International Bangladesh Representative Orla Murphy, BRAC Representative M Morshed, BACCO President Wahid Sharif, Dhaka University Professor Lafifa Jamal, Grameenphone's Human Resource Head TanvirHossain spoke on the occasion.
