31 out of 42 candidates lose security deposits

Among A total of 31 candidates out of 42 in six constituencies under Rajshahi district, have lost their security deposits as they failed to receive at least 12.5 per cent votes in their favour while only 11 candidates from the constituency will get back their security deposits. 

According to the officials of the Returning Officer in Rajshahi, the Election Commission took a Security Deposit of Taka 20,000 from each contesting candidate. To get back this Security Deposit money, the candidate is required to bag at least 12.5 per cent of the total cast votes in the constituency. But, 31 candidates among 42 failed to receive at least 12.5 per cent votes from their concerned areas. 

In the Rajshahi-1 (Godagari-Tanore) constituency, a total of 219,739 votes were cast and each candidate was required to bag 27,475 votes in favour of his/her candidacy. Only two candidates including AL candidate MP-elect Omar Faruque Chowdhury and Independent candidate Golam Rabbani will get back their security deposit money other nine candidates will be stripped of their deposit amount. In Rajshahi-2 (Rajshahi Sadar) constituency a total of 93,443 votes were cast. The candidate from the constituency was required to receive 11,681 votes to save their deposit money but only two candidates from the constituency got the required votes. They are Independent MP-elect Shafiqur Rahman Badsha and Fazley Hossain Badsha while the other five candidates from the constituency will lose their security deposit. 

In Rajshahi-3( Paba-Mohanpur) constituency, a total of 173,574 votes were cast. It required 21,691 votes by each candidate to get back the security deposit money but only the AL-nominated candidate Asaduzzaman Asad's Security Deposit was saved. He received 154,909 votes while all five other contesting candidates from the constituency lost their Security Deposit money. 

In Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) constituency, a total of 168,479 votes were cast where 21,060 votes were required to save the Security Deposit. AL candidate MP elect Abul Kalam Azad was the only candidate to get back the Deposit amount while four other candidates were stripped of their amount.

In Rajshahi-5 (Puthia-Durgapur) constituency, a total of 173,749 votes were cast where 22,219 votes were required to save the deposit. Only two candidates from the constituency will get back their security amount while the other four candidates will lose their deposit.  In Rajshai-6(Charghat-Bagha) two Independent candidates will lose their Security deposit amount where the AL candidate Shahriar Alam has been elected from the constituency.
