Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered 31 gold bars weighing 4.203 kilograms during an anti-smuggling operation along the Moheshpur border in Jhenaidah. The estimated market value of the seized gold is Tk 5.83 crore.

The recovery took place around 5:30am on Saturday near the main pillar 60/70-R at the Kumillapara border.

Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team from Moheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) spotted a suspect trying to illegally cross into India. When challenged, the individual dropped three bundles and fled into Indian Territory under the cover of rain.

Upon recovering the abandoned bundles, the team discovered the gold bars. No arrest has been made, but efforts are underway to identify those involved.

Additional Director Abu Hanif Md Sihanuk said that a general diary was filed at Moheshpur Police Station and the gold is being processed for submission to the district treasury.

BGB Commander Lt. Col. Rafiqul Alam confirmed intensified surveillance and ongoing anti-smuggling operations in the area.
