A total of 31,430 adolescent girls from various educational institutions in Meherpur, as well as those who don’t attend any educational institutions will be administered HPV vaccine under the HPV vaccination programme across the country starting from October 24.
They were instructed to register their names to get the vaccine.
The information was provided in a press conference held at Meherpur Civil Surgeon office conference room on Wednesday morning.
It was learnt that 16 out of every 100,000 women die from cancer in Bangladesh, with cervical cancer being the most prevalent cause of these deaths. However, this can be controlled through infection prevention measures. Therefore, like the rest of the country, HPV vaccinations for adolescents will begin in Meherpur district on October 24.
During the press conference, Meherpur Civil Surgeon Dr Mohi Uddin Ahmed spoke about various aspects of cancer prevention and the need for HPV vaccination to prevent cancer.
Moreover, Dr Inzamamul Haque and Dr Ashiqur Rahman gave a presentation at the press conference to provide various information on this topic. Journalists from various media working in the district were present at that time.
