The water level in the Jamuna and Bangali rivers of Sariakandi in Bogura has continued to rise due to incessant rains and downpours from the upper reaches.
The water level of Jamuna river has increased and is flowing above the danger level of 3 cm. On the other hand, the water of the Bengali river is rising and flowing above the danger level of 5 cm.
Bogra Water Development Board (Paubo) officials confirmed the increase in water around 12 noon on Friday. Meanwhile, Ropa Aman, vegetables, mashkalai, chilli and local varieties of Ganjia paddy have been submerged in the river.
Pepper, vegetables, transplanted aman and masakalai have been submerged in the flood waters in the areas along the Bengali river in Kutubpur, Fulbari, Bhelabari, Sariakandi Sadar and Hatsherpur Union.
Abdul Halim, upazila agriculture officer, said 300 hectares of crops in the upazila had been affected by the floods due to rising water levels in the Jamuna and Bangali rivers.
Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, executive engineer of Bogra Water Development Board (Paubo), said that water was flowing in the Jamuna river at a height of 3 cm above the danger level and the water level was continuing to rise.
