30 gold bars seized, two foreigners held at Dhaka airport

The customs intelligence personnel seized 30 gold bars weighing 12 kilograms from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport here in the early hours of Thursday, reports BSS.

Members of the customs intelligence also arrested two Japanese for their alleged involved in carrying the gold bars illegally, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate Director General Dr Shahidul Islam told BSS.

He said, on a tip-off, a team of the intelligence searched the two Japanese– Takeo Mimura and Shuichi Sato, who came to Dhaka from Malaysia by an Air Asia flight – and recovered the gold bars from their body.

The estimated value of the seized gold bars is around Taka 6 crore, the DG said.

Later, the two arrestees were handed over to police and legal steps have been taken under the customs act, he said.
