3 workers killed as roof of abandoned building collapses in Netrokona

UNB, Netrokona: Three workers were killed and two others seriously injured when the roof of an old building collapsed during demolition work at the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC) Irrigation Office in the Nagra area of Netrokona district town.

The deceased were identified as Dipu Mia of Palashhati village in Sadar Upazila, Hannan Mia of Haludati village, and Salam Mia of Abhaypasha village in Atpara Upazila.

According to police and eyewitnesses, the building had been abandoned for a long time, and demolition work was underway when a large section of the roof suddenly collapsed trapping several workers underneath.

On information, police and fire service personnel rushed to the scene and recovered the bodies of the three victims.

Two critically injured were immediately taken to Netrokona Modern Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Kazi Shah Newaz, officer-in-charge of Netrokona Model Police Station, said the fire service and police recovered the bodies and sent the injured to hospital for urgent medical care.

Following the tragedy, district administration officials visited the site and extended financial assistance to the families of the deceased to support funeral arrangements.

Authorities have announced that an investigation committee will be formed to determine the exact cause of the collapse.
