3 women honored

Marking International Women’s Day, three women were awarded in Khulna for their outstanding contribution to women empowerment and their development, reports BSS.  Bangladesh Human Rights Implementation Agency (BHRIA) in Khulna district and city units organised the award-giving ceremony at Public Hall Auditorium in the city on Tuesday night.

Noted Educationalist Prof Jafor Imam attended the event as the chief guest with Vice-President of BHRIA Prof Anawarul Qadir in the chair.

General Secretary of Khulna District Awami League Advocate Sujit Kumar Adhikari, Deputy Director of Khulna Regional Information Office M Javed Iqbal and Deputy Director of the Department of Women’s Affairs Nargis Fatema Zamin addressed the meeting as special guests.

Coordinator of BHRIA Advocate Mominul Islam delivered the welcome speech in the meeting. Speakers urged the people to work jointly for building discrimination free prosperous ‘Sonar Bangla’ as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

To build a prosperous nation, they called for engaging comprehensive efforts to bring an end to violence against women for ensuring their equal emancipation in development, economy, politics, good governance and everysector.

The awardees women are Special Superintendent of Police in special branch of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) Rashida Begum, Former Principal of Government Women College Dr. Syed Lutfun Nahar and Executive Director of MASAS, a non-government organisation, Advocate Shamima Sultana Shilu.
