3 killed in a collision with a covered van in Chakaria

Three motorcyclists, including two brothers, were killed when a covered van hit them on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway at Chakaria in Cox’s Bazar.

The accident took place at around 12:30 pm on Sunday (August 30) when a covered van heading for Cox’s Bazar collided with a vehicle in Laksharchar Jiddabazar area of the upazila.

The deceased were identified as Amjad Hossain Rifat (22) son of Mohammad Bashir of Alipur village in Ward 8 of Harbang Union and Mohammad Tarek Niloy (22) and Tanjilur Rahman (19) two sons of Abdul Hakim of Bazarpara village in Ward 4 of the same union.

The deceased Amjad was a second year student of Statistics Department of Dhaka University. He lived in Shahidullah Hall of the university. Niloy was doing internship at Chittagong Polytechnic Institute. His younger brother Tanjil is a first year student of Bandarban Government College.

Anisur Rahman, an inspector at the Chiringa Highway police outpost, confirmed the incident, saying a Cox’s Bazar-bound covered van collided with a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction in the Jiddabazar area of Chakaria at noon. Three motorcyclists were injured.

Locals rescued the injured and sent them to Chakaria Upazila Health Complex. After taking them to the hospital, the doctor declared them dead.
