A mobile court at Santhia under Pabna district awarded three persons one-month of imprisonment each for arranging child marriage at Talat village of the upazila on Friday afternoon.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Santhia SM Zamal Ahmed also rescued the bride Monira Khatun, 12, a student of class V, daughter of Monirul Islam from Talat village.
However, sensing the presence of the mobile court team headed by UNO, father Monira and the would-be bride-groom managed to escape but the Match maker Ismail Hossain(55), uncle of the groom Anowar Hossain and his friend Shahin Sheikh(20) were arrested from the spot. UNO and Executive Magistrate of the mobile court awarded the arrested persons one month term imprisonment each and handed over Monira Khatun to her mother after signing on a contract paper pledging not to marry Monira until she was matured. Three convicted persons were handed over to Santhia police station.
