3 injured in gas cylinder blast in Cox’s Bazar

Three Rohingyas were critically injured due to a gas cylinder explosion at Ukhiya Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar on Sunday.

The injured were identified as Md Ismail, 60, son of Md Mukul, Amena Khatun, 55, wife of Md Ismail, and Abdul Shukkur, 37, son of Md Sultan, all residents of camp no. 20 extension.

An official of the camp said the critically injured Rohingyas were rescued and sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital for better treatment.

The incident occurred at s-3/b-2 block in the extended part of Rohingya camp no. 20 in Ukhiya on Sunday morning. Two Rohingya of the camp was refilling a gas cylinder from another gas cylinder when one cylinder exploded due to a spark of fire from cigarette.

According to the camp authority, Mohammad Ismail and Abdul Shukkur, resident of s-3/b-2 block in the extended part of Rohingya camp no. 20, were refilling a gas cylinder from another gas cylinder at around 10:30am on Sunday. One gas cylinder exploded at that time due to a spark of fire from cigarette, injuring three people.

The injured were rushed to the Friendship Hospital of camp 20. After receiving first aid, Mohammad Ismail was referred to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment due to his critical condition.

Amena Khatun and Abdul Shukkur are receiving treatment at the burn unit of Friendship Hospital, said the hospital authority.
