3 illegal hospitals closed

Action after Bangladesh Post’s report

Savar Upazila administration shut down three illegal hospitals for several irregularities in Savar on Tuesday. The hospitals are Labstar Hospital and Diagnostic Centre, Zomuna Digital Hospital and newly opened New Life Care Hospital and Diagnostic Centre.

Earlier, an investigative report was published on The Bangladesh Post about some horrific irregularities of Labstar Hospital with the headline, ‘Couple runs clinic without doctor’, on Saturday last.

Md. Abdullah Al Mahfuz, Assistant commissioner (land) and Executive magistrate of Savar Upazila administration, led a mobile court with the cooperation of Local health administration and local police and shut down the hospital. 

Dr Md Sayemul Huda, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Nusrat Jahan Sathi, Residential Medical Officer of Savar Health Complex along other official were present at the drive.

Md. Abdullah Al Mahfuz said, “The hospitals had been running for long without any license. Even, they do not have enough doctor, nurses and proper management. We fined 50 thousand of taka to Zomuna digital hospital and diagnostic center, and 5 thousand of taka to Labstar hospital and diagnostic center along with the order to shut their activities.”

On other hand, the mobile court shut down an illegal Mobil factory named Saasco Energy Bd Ltd, for setup the factory unplannedly and polluting environment during the drive. In addition, the magistrate sentenced one month of jail to the manager of the factory named Abu Taleb, 30, son of Md. Kausar, hailed from Shadhapur area of Savar.
