3 held for scamming people with forged Kuwaiti visas

The Detective Branch of police arrested three persons for scamming people by forging Kuwaiti visas and Bureau of Manpower, Emplo­yment and Training cards through fake Facebook pages.

The arrested are – Shariful Islam, Abrar Jawar Tanmoy alias Rezaul Karim Reza alias Hridi Mahajabin and Ahian Shishir alias Kamruzzaman Shishir.They were arrested from Bandarban’s Naikhong­chhari and Dhaka’s Vatara area on Friday. Briefing media, Dhaka metropolitan police DB chief Harun-or-Rashid said that the group had scammed about Tk1.35 crore from over 50 victims.

The ring created Facebook pages using fake IDs and tempted people for Kuwaiti visas with jobs there for handsome salary. Those who applied through them got into a contract in exchange of a hefty amount of money, said Harun.

Then they arrange training and BMET clearance card with fake visas using original visa information and numbers. After showing the air tickets to job aspirants, they embezzled the full amount of money and then switched off their phone numbers to go into hiding.

The DB seized 40 passports, nine forged visas, photocopies of fake BMET cards, along with mobile phones and sim cards used in fraudulence from their possessions.

The DB chief said that the fraud ring rented an office under the name of Al-Safar International at Gulshan-1. Using the address of the said office, they opened pages on Facebook with various pseudonyms. There, they attract the attention of people luring them of high-paying jobs in Kuwait.

A victim filed a case with Gulshan police station on August 7.

‘There are four cases against Shariful and one case against Tanmoy over money embezzlement in different police stations,’ the DB official said.

According to the investigators, Tanmoy and Shishir are both transgender persons. For the purpose of cheating, they changed their genders to assume the identity of Hridi Mahazabin to Abrar Jawar Tanmoy alias Rezaul Karim Reza and Sharmin to Kamruzzaman Shishir.

Their true identities were recovered after a thorough investigation by the DB, they said.
