3 fishermen detained in Sundarbans

The Forest Department arrested three fishermen along with their belongings while catching crabs entering the protected area in the depths of Satkhira Range in the western Sundarbans on Thursday afternoon.

Members led by Kobatak Station Officer Mohammad Nasir Uddin held the fishermen from the Arpangashia canal near the Batula River in the Sundarbans. 

The arrestees are identified as Abiar Rahman, 55, his son Shahaparan, 25, and Shariful Islam Tarafdar, 19, son of late Idris Tarafdar of Datinakhali village in Shyamnagar 

upazila.

Satkhira Assistant Range Officer MA Hasan confirming the incident said the fishermen were arrested on the spot on news of them catching crabs in the restricted area.  

At that time, two boats used by the fishermen, 30 kg of crabs and four hundred meters of nets 

were seized. 

The arrested fishermen have been sent to jail through the court under the Forest Act, he added.
