A three-day development fair began in Gopalganj on the occasion of National Local Government Day.
Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate of Gopalganj Kazi Mahbubul Alam inaugurated the fair as the chief guest at Gopalganj Sadar upazila auditorium Sunday afternoon.
The speakers highlighted various development activities of the government in the last 14 years in Gopalganj.
Besides, Kazi Mahbubul Alam, discussed extensively about universal pension scheme including prevention of drugs, gambling, juvenile crime, dowry, and child marriage.
He said that the district administration has been conducting public hearings every Wednesday to improve the quality of life of marginalized people including beggars, poor, helpless and disabled.
“We are helping these communities with various materials including rickshaws, vans, cows, goats, ducks, chickens to join the main stream of development,” he added.
In the opening ceremony, the deputy commissioner also said that a three-day long development fair has begun from Sunday in five upazilas of Gopalganj district.
Various departments have participated in this fair with stalls.
Later, the guests inaugurated the development fair by releasing balloons and cutting the ribbon. After that, the guests along with the deputy commissioner visited the stalls of the development fair.
In the development fair organized under the theme of “Efficient design of services and development, local government in development”, a wide campaign is being carried out to encourage the common people towards universal pension.
