3 arrested with stolen gold, mobile in Begumganj

Noakhali's Begumganj Model Thana Police arrested three members of an inter-district thief gang after raiding various places in Kaptai and Begumganj of Rangamati. During this time, 8.13  bhories of gold and 2 mobile phones were seized from them.

Begumganj Model Police Station Sub-Inspector Spacelab Chowdhury Promoz conducted the operation from Thursday night to Friday morning.

The arrested accused are Nazim Uddin Sohag (39) son of Zakir Hossain of Alipur area of Chaumuhani municipality of Begumganj upazila, Sumon (33) son of Taher Uddin of North Nazirpur area of Chaumuhani municipality and Ismail Hossain (30) son of Ali Ulya of the same area. According to the police, on January 24, Abul Faiz M Abdul Mannan, a resident of Nahar Kunjar in North Nazirpur area, locked his house and went to Dhaka with his wife for treatment. Later on January 30 afternoon, he came home and found two locks of the gate of the house broken.  After entering the house and saw that 3 gold necklaces weighing 8 tons, 3 chains weighing 3 tons, 10 bracelets weighing 12 tons, 1 piece of bechlet weighing 2 tons, 8 pairs of earrings weighing 2 tons, 2 lockets weighing 1 tons, rings 10 weighing 3 tons, diamond ring 1 A total of 32 gold ornaments weighing 5 annas were stolen. The thieves also took two mobile phones, two flashlights, seven thousand Saudi Riyals from that house. Later, the victim Abul Faiz filed a case in the police station on February 8.

Begumganj Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Spacelab Chowdhury Pramoz said that Nazim Uddin Sohag was first arrested in Kaptai area of Rangamati district on Thursday night with the help of information technology.

 Later, based on the information given by him, Suman was arrested from South Nazirpur area and Ismail from North Nazirpur area of Chaumuhani. During this time, stolen 8 loads of 13 annas gold and 2 mobile phones were seized from them.

He further informed that the arrested accused are professional thieves and active members of inter-district thieves' gangs. They have admitted that they have been stealing various police station areas for a long time. They will be sent to the district jail by the judicial court on Friday afternoon.
