3,500 sacks of relief rice seized in Ukhia

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested three people with 3,500 sacks of government relief rice from a store in Ukhia Maricha Bazar area of Cox's Bazar. Although the operation was carried out on Saturday night, the matter was revealed by the RAB on Sunday morning. 

The detainees are Mohammad Ehsan, 31, son of Sona Ali of Haludia Palang area of Ukhia, Abul Kalam, 32, son of late Syed Ahmed of West Haludia Palang area and Abul Kalam, 50, son of late Maqbool Ahmed of Pagli Beel area. During the operation, 99 empty sacks of jute were also recovered.

RAB-15 Assistant Director (Media), Assistant Superintendent of Police Abdullah Md. Sheikh Saadi said, RAB came to know on the basis of secret information that some people were stockpiling government relief rice in the warehouse of a store in Marichabazar area. 

In this context, a team of RAB-15 conducted an operation there. During the operation, 3,500 sacks of government relief rice and 99 empty sacks of jute were recovered.

The RAB official further said that during the preliminary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they were collecting the seized rice sacks from various sources and were stocking them for selling at a higher price. The detainees have been handed over to Ukhia police station for further legal action.
