3,034 new cases reported

Deaths from the Covid-19 pandemic crossed 2500-mark in Bangladesh on Friday with 51 more patients died overnight.
During the period of 24 hours, the government also confirmed the detection of 3,034 fresh cases and the recoveries of 1,762 patients.

With that, the death toll from the pandemic rose to 2,547, total cases surged to 199,357 and recovery count stood at 108,725 in Bangladesh, additional director general for health Prof Nasima Sultana said at the daily bulletin.

Of the total deaths, 1,255 were in Dhaka division, 655 in Chattogram, 131 in Rajshahi, 150 in Khulna, 97 in Barishal, 116 in Sylhet, 87 in Rangpur and 56 in Mymensingh division.

Prof Nasima said 13,860 samples were tested at 80 authorised laboratories across the country during the 24 hours of time till 8am.

The government detected the first cases on March 8 and confirmed the first death on March 18. So far, 54.54 percent of patients have recovered, while 1.28 percent died.

The WHO declared the disease pandemic on March 11.
Prof Nasima said there is no shortage of hospital beds dedicated for Covid-19 treatment in Bangladesh as most of the patients are taking treatment from home.

The government has dedicated 14,715 beds and 376 ICUs for the COVID-19 patients.
The additional director general urged all to abide by the health rules such as wearing a mask while going out, maintaining physical distancing, and washing hands with soap to protect themselves from the infection.

Among the 51 deaths reported on Friday, 40 were male and 11 females – 42 died in hospitals and the rest at their respective homes.

One was in his 20s, three in their 30s, seven in their 40s, 15 in their 50s, 12 in their 60s, 11 in their 70s and two in their 80s.
According to the division-wise data, 13 deaths took place in Dhaka division, 16 in Chattogram division, six each in Khulna and Barishal divisions, while the rest are in other divisions.

Currently, 60,226 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,261 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 345,304 people have completed their quarantine course.

The authorities placed 812 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 18,250 after 22,509 left.

A total of 10,99,357 samples have so far been tested since the detection of the first Covid-19 cases in Bangladesh.
