26 arrested over Geneva Camp teen murder

As many as 26 individuals were so far arrested in connection with the killing of 16-year-old Shah Alam at Geneva Camp in the capital’s Mohammadpur.

A Dhaka court has granted a police plea to show all those 26 arrested in connection with the killing.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jewel Rana passed the order on Tuesday after hearing the police petition, confirmed Public Prosecutor Muhammad Shamsuddoha Sumon.

Earlier, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Md Majharul Islam of Mohammadpur Police Station, produced the accused before the court and sought permission to show them arrested in the case. Following the hearing, the court approved the petition and ordered that the accused be sent to jail.

The arrestees include: Nasir Hossain Nashu, Faiyaz Hossain, Md Rasel, Md Hira, Md Al Amin, Md Jamil, Md Foysal Hossain, Md Golam Rasul, Md Mostak, Md Said Hossain, Md Shuvo, Md Rakib, Md Selim, Md Shawon, Md Masud Rana, Md Akash, Md Istiyak, Md Rashed, Md Rasel, Md Raj, Md Rajib, Md Bashir, Md Pappu, Shah Alam, Md Azad Hossain, and Foysal Hossain.

Police had earlier arrested the accused on August 12.

According to the case statement, rival groups in the camp had been clashing over establishing dominance, carrying firearms and locally made weapons. In the week leading up to the incident, several clashes and bomb explosions were reported in the area.

On August 11, around 2:45pm, violent clashes erupted between drug-dealer groups armed with firearms, sharp weapons, and crude bombs. At that time, victim Shah Alam, who had come from Bosila to visit his grandmother, was attacked with a machete. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

The following day on August 13, Shah Alam's father, Md Rubel, filed a murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station, naming 31 individuals and accusing 50–60 unidentified others.
