Violence against women and girls continues to rise across the country. Bangladesh Mahila Parishad said that a total of 2,575 incidents of violence occurred in the ten months from January to October this year.

Two thousand 575 women and girls have been victims of torture in the last ten months in the country. Among them, 397 people were raped, 115 people were gang-raped, 31 people were killed after rape, 12 people committed suicide due to rape and 89 women and children were attempted to rape.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad disclosed it by analyzing the news published in different dailies recently.

The organisation presented this information at a press conference at National Press Club on Saturday on the occasion of International Women's Violence Prevention and World Human Rights Day.The report mentioned that 433 women were killed, 231 died in mysterious reason, 211 were physically assulted, 207 committed suicide, 122 were abducted and 142 were face sexual assault in last 10 months.

Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Dr. Fauzia Moslem was present as moderator while the written statement was presented by Rekha Saha, Legal Aid Secretary of the organization.

In response to the questions of the journalists, Dr. Fauzia Moslem said that recently, the rape victim got married to the rapist. The provisions of the law do not mention the solution of such a marriage. It hurts the self-esteem of the woman, her security is also disturbed. Marriage with a rapist is not desirable in any way to protect the dignity and human rights of women. On the other hand, due to various incidents of violence including rape incidents and various depressing conditions, suicide incidents are happening among teenagers and university students which is very worrying. Psychological support, counseling services should be increased to prevent suicide.

In the written statement, it is said that the government, development organisations, women and human rights organizations and women's movement are working multi-dimensionally to prevent violence against women and girls, but the level of violence against women and girls is continuously increasing. Along with this, the type of brutality is increasing.

Shahana Kabir, General Secretary Maleka Banu, Joint General Secretary Seema Moslem and Advocate Masuda Rehana, also spoke, among others on the occasion.
