Bangladesh on Saturday registered 38 more deaths from the pandemic coronavirus and 2,520 new cases of infection testing 12,446 samples in the last 24 hours.
During the period till 8am, additional director general for health Prof Nasima Sultana at the daily briefing said, 1,114 patients have recovered from the illness.
With that, the total number of cases rose to 221,178, deaths 2,874 and recoveries 122,090.
Of the latest victims, 29 were men and nine were women.
Thirty-four of them have died in different hospitals, three at their respective homes and one was diagnosed with the infection after death.
Moreover, 17 of them were hailed from Dhaka, eight from Rajshahi, four each from Khulna and Chattogram, three each from Mymensingh, and one each from Sylhet and Rangpur division.
Of the total deceased so far, 78.84 percent were males and 21.16 percent were females.
Bangladesh first detected the cases on March 8 and the first death on March 18. The WHO declared the disease pandemic on March 11.
Around 55.20 percent of the patients have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.30 percent have died.
So far 1,101,480 samples have been tested. Of them, 20.08 percent were found positive for the virus.
Currently, 59,450 people are quarantined across the country – including 1,709 newly-quarantined individuals. Some 364,011 people have completed their quarantine course.
The authorities placed 649 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 19,202 after 27,357 left.
