25 Myanmar junta soldiers killed during clashes in Rakhine, Magway

The Arakan Army (AA) reports that a total of 25 Myanmar junta soldiers were killed in clashes near Ann township in Rakhine State, where the Western Military Command is stationed, and near Ngape township in the Magway Region, according to a 29 March statement.

On 26 March, a skirmish between the AA and the junta occurred approximately 1.5 kms west of Lone Village in Ann Township, where the Military Council’s Western Military Command is situated.

Lasting around thirty minutes, the confrontation involved the Military Council’s contingent, comprising the Light Infantry Battalion No-346 and additional forces from Military Operations Command No (5). Despite the Military Council employing heavy weaponry, airstrikes, and drone attacks, the AA reported that approximately 15 members of the Military Council were killed, with another 15 sustaining injuries.

In this skirmish, the AA also disclosed that some of the Military Council’s weapons and ammunition were confiscated, while two AA members sustained minor injuries.

On the same day, 26 March, a confrontation lasting around thirty minutes ensued between a 40-member contingent of the Military Council and the AA in the northeastern vicinity of Tonegyi Village in Ngape township, situated in Magway, near the border of Rakhine State.

According to AA, four soldiers from the Military Council’s side were killed, and eight sustained injuries during the skirmish.

Two days later, on 28 March at approximately 9:00 am, a clash occurred for a brief duration between a 50-member Military Council detachment and the AA on the southern ridge of Chaunghpyar Village in Ngape Township, Magway Region. This confrontation resulted in six deaths and 10 injuries among the soldiers. Weapons and ammunition were seized by the AA.

In Rakhine State, daily clashes persist between the AA and the Military Council. The AA announced that they successfully captured Taungbazar Camp in Buthidaung Township on 25 March.

The AA has stated that they are intensifying their offensive with the objective of fully seizing the Kyein Chaung border guard camp in Maungdaw Township, located near the border with Bangladesh. Meanwhile, the Military Council is defending itself with substantial aerial and artillery support.
